Horror Movie Reviews
Halloween movies to add to your watchlist this year
Even though Halloween may look a little different this year due to COVID-19, there are still plenty of fun activities to do that allow people to safely socially distance. One of these activities is watching Halloween movies. So grab your popcorn and watch any/all of the following Halloween movies. Some of these movies include: “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, “The Conjuring”, “It” and “Beetlejuice”.
“A Nightmare on Elm Street” (1984), which was directed by Wes Craven, is just one of many horror movies to watch this Halloween. The classic 80s horror film includes a variety of talented actors such as Robert Englund, Johnny Depp and Heather Langenkamp. This movie tells the story of several teenagers who get greeted in their dreams by the villain, Freddy Krueger. “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is worth watching since it goes beyond the average slasher film. It deals with the concept of dreams colliding with reality, which makes it an entertaining and interesting film to watch.
“The Conjuring” (2013), directed by James Wan, is loosely based on the true story of Ed and Lorraine Warren who are paranormal investigators. “The Conjuring” is one of many movies in the “Conjuring Universe” that are all connected. Other movies in “The Conjuring Universe” include the “Annabelle” series and the “Nun” series. Since this movie is more of a paranormal movie and not so much of a slasher film, it focuses on more psychological horror, yet it still has this intensity of every other horror film. Overall, the special effects in this film are incredible. It definitely is one of those movies that had the potential to be silly, but it turned out to be the complete opposite. It definitely is a movie worth watching this Halloween.
“It” (2017), directed by Andrés Muschietti, is based on Stephen King’s novel It. The young and talented cast in this movie consists of Jaeden Martell, Bill Skarsgard, Wyatt Oleff, Finn Wolfhard, Sophia Lillis, Jack Dylan Grazer, Chosen Jacobs and Jeremy Ray Taylor. This film tells the story of a shape-shifting monster disguised as a clown that feeds on people’s fears. The children in the town of Derry, Maine work to battle this creature. This is definitely a little different than your average slasher film. The cinematic elements in this movie are great, and the sound effects add to the intensity of the movie. This is another movie to add to your watchlist.
“Beetlejuice” (1988), is a little different from the other horror films previously mentioned because it is more of a light-hearted comedy mixed with a fantasy. It is directed by Tim Burton who has directed countless other great movies. This wonderfully chaotic movie is about a couple who discovers that they are dead when a new family moves in their home. They try to get rid of this new family by calling up Beetlejuice. This is another great film to add to your watchlist this year.
Watching any of these films are worth your time; it is a great option to socially distance, yet still celebrate Halloween.
