Music Review: “All Too Well”
“All Too Well” is a song that was released with Taylor Swift’s album “Red.” Since its release, the song has been streamed around 131 million times. “All Too Well” peaked at 80 in the U.S. Billboard Top 100 chart. With its popularity, I decided to listen to the song and share my thoughts about it.
“All Too Well” starts off with a guitar melody, followed by lower pitched lyrics from Taylor Swift. This creates a soft spoken, melodic effect. However, because of the song’s gentle nature, it failed to catch my full attention since the start, causing me to overlook the story Taylor is trying to tell in the song. “All Too Well” was at first a ten minute song, but then was cut down to a five minute song. This breaks the standard mold of most songs since most songs are normally two to minutes. This had a negative impact on my listening experience since the song is mostly a lower tone which made it repetitive and boring.
The song would be better if it could improve on the beat in the background to make it more engaging. While I appreciate artists like Taylor who challenge the standard length a song can be, “All Too Well”’s repetitive and melodic tone makes it difficult for the listener to stay engaged during the entire song.
